This week in the northern hemisphere, we find ourselves transitioning into the autumn season following the equinox. This time of year is a brief period of perfect balance—of light and darkness appearing in symmetry, reminding us to pause before we fall into the coming winter. In 5Rhythms, we dance to honor shifts and change. We embrace the periods of harvesting, celebrating what we've grown, and times of personal hibernation. The approaching winter invites introspection—a season to slow down, to rest, and to reflect. Yet even as we turn inward, moving the body during the cooler months can act as a type of light against the shadows—a way to shake off our solitary habits, release pent-up energy, and invite warmth into our bodies. Dancing allows us to generate energy, and reconnect with our inner glow. In India, 'Navratri' is a nine-night Hindu festival that often falls around the autumn equinox. It celebrates the divine feminine and honors various aspects of the goddess Durga of power and protection. Dancing is a central part of the festival, especially in the form of Garba and Dandiya Raas. Just as Navratri celebrates through movement, we too can use dance to honor the changing season—a time of devotion, power, and protective community gatherings. Like Navratri, we'll use dance to celebrate the season and the deep mystery that unfolds in the quieter, darker months. Let us gather with our dance communities to share our warmth and light with each other. With love, The SDP Team Autumn's Fiery Dance Comments are closed.
