On Sunday, the sun will be directly above the earth, balancing night and day. I feel slightly melancholy when the nights grow longer and daylight hours diminish, but I am reminded that longer nights can be a beautiful time for stargazing. It’s amazing how looking at something from another perspective impacts us. Lately, I have found myself inspired by the words of Vice President Kamala Harris about freedom and what it means to be free. In our shared practice, we dance to discover what freedom is. In the 5Rhythms language, through Flowing, we embrace the freedom simply to be. In Staccato, we claim our freedom to speak. Chaos empowers us with the freedom to disrupt and reshape. Lyrical reminds us of our freedom to love and connect. And in Stillness, we find the profound freedom to choose our path forward. With each step and gesture, we celebrate the unique rhythms of our diverse experiences and the beauty of our shared humanity. In our sacred space at our Oakland BIPOC Freedom Dance classes, we journey to embody the multifaceted nature of freedom--not just freedom from the chains that bind us, but freedom to become our most whole selves. If you can, come join this Saturday morning’s BIPOC class at the Interplay Studio at 2273 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. Details are below.
