At my last class working with veterans, we experienced a heartfelt share from one of the veterans with a dual diagnosis. At the end of class, he told us that the class made him cool down, and he felt better. He shared that his PTSD was triggered in the last group, and he sat outside but then decided to join us. He said he wanted to be there but could not participate, and I told him it was okay. As the class kept moving, he started to join in. By the end, he said he wasn't triggered anymore. The class helped him resource himself by passing the beat around, moving with the things that made him happy or put a smile on his face, and then ending with gratitude. He finished the class feeling thankful and calm. Instead of bypassing his feelings, he acknowledged them and was able to move with what was there. These experiences with the veterans deepen my excitement for my upcoming Outreach Facilitator Training workshop in October. This five-day facilitator training program covers movement exercises, using movement as a resource, and creating a safe container. The facilitator training is designed for movement teachers, counselors, healthcare practitioners, recreation therapists, and experienced dancers who would like to bring dance to populations that are uncomfortable dancing. I'm excited to share how energy flows, the interconnectedness that arises in movement practices, and how to attune with what’s moving in the person and in the room. Here's a quote from one of the past participants: "Our experience with Sylvie has exceeded our expectations in every way. The program has been an incredible success, boasting an impressive turnout, enthusiastic participation, and overwhelmingly positive feedback from everyone involved. During one of our sessions last month, My journeys may take me away from home, but they also bring me closer to the essence of our practice. As I integrate these transformative experiences into my teachings, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude for all of you.
