SHAPESHIFTER WORKSHOP WITH SYLVIE MINOT
NEXT SERIES TBD
Shapeshifting
“Stories and legends about shapeshifting, but they do tend to come out of indigenous cultures with
strong animistic traditions and cultures where people have lived in such a way that the membrane
between the human and the non-human world is very thin. And so, I wonder if they don't also
represent a different way of thinking, not just about what's imaginary, but about what's real.”
~ Sharon Blackie ~
The Sufis believe that there’s a world between the physical world and the intellect. This place is called the imaginal world. They believe that this world is as real as what we see with our eyes. By traveling and connecting to the imaginal, we engage with the deepest levels of life and reality.
The Shapeshifter Workshop came out of my Ancestors workshop in 2018. I was inspired to create its own workshop as we danced with our animal ancestors. Our body is an echo system of ancestors, a world of plants and animals within our cells and DNA. Shapeshifting is in our blood, and it’s not just in animal form. We frequently shift shape without knowing it. In this workshop, we will embody this immersion with the natural world and the animals through the 5Rhythms practice.
In shapeshifting, we enact and embody stories; it is how we evolve. According to Ancestral Movement teacher Simon Thakur, we shapeshift to know, learn, and learn through becoming, awakening dormant cells, gaining the eyes of the eagle, and knowing the heart of the deer.
We will dance with our animal allies, take in the animal's spirit into our body, and become the magic that moves through all of us. In this, we find our way back to ourselves and each other.

“Sylvie is an instrument of sound and dance, facilitating a sacred space for the co-creation of healing.
Throughout time and space, our ancestors have come together to heal, grieve, and pray.
As a musician and a healer, I have never known a space where these ancient ways
are honored and continued with such integrity and creativity.“
