The first day of fall in the northern hemisphere is this Wednesday, the autumn equinox, where night and day are equal when the moon embraces the sun. It is a balance of light and dark. The Harvest moon rises right after sunset creating an abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening, which traditionally aided the fall harvest. Our nights are getting longer and the leaves find their way to the ground closer to the earth. What would you like to fill your basket with this fall? What do you want to harvest (metaphorically) for the winter? I invite you to join us and dance in honor of the cycle of life and the changing of the season. Song for Autumn by Mary Oliver In the deep fall don’t you imagine the leaves think how comfortable it will be to touch the earth instead of the nothingness of air and the endless freshets of wind? And don’t you think the trees themselves, especially those with mossy, warm caves, begin to think of the birds that will come — six, a dozen — to sleep inside their bodies? And don’t you hear the goldenrod whispering goodbye, the everlasting being crowned with the first tuffets of snow? The pond vanishes, and the white field over which the fox runs so quickly brings out its blue shadows. And the wind pumps its bellows. And at evening especially, the piled firewood shifts a little, longing to be on its way. With love, Sylvie and the SDP Team PS. No dance experience needed. Beginners are always welcome. Come join us! You don't have to attend via video on Zoom--you can choose to attend this class in person if you live near Mill Valley, CA or choose to listen to the class on your Smartphone. ABOUT SYLVIE MINOT'S SWEAT YOUR PRAYERS CLASSSweat Your Prayers® is A 5Rhythms® movement meditation practice where you move through all the five rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness with breath and intention. This class is self-guided where there is no verbal movement instruction. 5Rhythms is a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of shape, size, age, or experience. While the dance itself is simple, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put your psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They come together to create a wave. Classes feature DJ music that is facilitated by the teacher, Sylvie Minot. There are no dance steps to follow, but you are guided in breath and movement by your own awareness of what your body, mind and soul needs. Each rhythm has its own energy and tempo in which you tap into the wisdom of your body, bringing awareness to the patterns in yourself and your life, and find your individual expression. Any level of fitness, agility and ages are invited to participate. All are welcome and no prior dance training or ability is required. Please note -- for the virtual ZOOM class, you don't have to connect via video--you can choose to call in or join by audio only and listen to the class through a headset. Some dancers enjoy going for a walk outdoors while they move to the music.
