Famous Sufi mystic and poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad ‘Rumi’ is considered the inventor of the dance of the whirling dervishes. The dance is a form of meditation that transcends the movement of the body to unite the dancer’s soul with Source. Meditative dance helps us let go of the suffering that is a natural extension of being vulnerable to love. For me, the new year has begun with its own set of challenges. Whenever life presents itself as difficulty, I return to the poetry of Rumi and our dance practice. Rumi inspires love, letting go, and the dance within me. Today, I reflected on this poem by Rumi-- The morning wind spreads its fresh smell. May this poem help you through any challenges you currently face as a reminder to move your way through your life experience with breath and dance. With Love, Sylvie and the SDP Team PS. We have made the decision to postpone our Sound Waves Benefit until late February at Hidden City Ballroom in Point Richmond, California on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Due to the current pandemic conditions, we believe this is the right decision to guarantee the safety of facilitators, volunteers, and class participants.
