We begin this week with GivingTuesday today, formed as a simple idea in 2012 to encourage generosity. As we turn inward into gratitude, we feel humbled by the support we have received thus far. It is inspiring to see who shares our passion for bringing dance to people who need it most. Amidst times of great uncertainty, we are called to radical transformation--to develop new ideas and rapidly shift paths. We moved toward new possibilities for our work, such as hybrid classes and virtual training. We also provided training for the beloved healthcare staff at NewBridge Services in New Jersey. Our training allows the staff to hold their own senior classes. We are looking forward to continuing this favorite collaboration in 2022. Our fundraising goal is to support virtual or in-person classes for diabetic groups for this year's Giving Tuesday. Diabetics live within an immune-compromised system; they are at higher risk of COVID complications, and their nervous system's resting state is high alert. Dance creates feelings of calm, delightfulness, and grounding as it releases stress, soothes anxiety, and nudges us gently out of depression. In 2018, Syzygy Dance Project's program Diabetes in Motion was a great success. We worked with Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where we were met with a deep desire to share this program. We plan to continue with these classes while branching out to other communities and organizations working with diabetics. And because of virtual connections like Zoom, we can expand beyond the San Francisco Bay Area. We can connect with doctors and nurse practitioners across the internet to bring movement that supports their diabetes patients. The San Francisco General hospital doctors used "green prescription" for diabetic patients attending our movement classes, and the participants loved it. Would you like to support us in igniting this project? We'd love your help! We want to gather data, offer training, and work with the healthcare system and practitioners to lessen the physical and emotional pain caused by diabetes. Thank you, Sylvie & the SDP Team Watch a video of our diabetic class at SF General Hospital: If you make a donation through the Syzygy Dance Project Giving Tuesday fundraiser page, Facebook is matching 100% of the first $2M, but you have to donate as soon as Facebook begins to match and it can go quickly. Facebook matching begins on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 8 am Eastern Time (that's 5 am PST, oh my!). Facebook matches qualifying donations to nonprofits until the $8M match runs out.
