In 5Rhythms Sweat Your Prayers, we engage in movement as a form of self-expression, self-discovery, and mindfulness. The dance floor can be seen as a symbolic doorway. In this space, we transition from one state of being to another, exploring the present moment and our bodies’ relation to it. Drawing a parallel to January’s namesake, Janus, who could see both the future and the past, we can find inspiration in the duality of Janus's two faces. This duality symbolizes the ability to reflect on past experiences while embracing the potential for new beginnings. The idea of Janus as the god of doorways aligns with the concept of the 5Rhythms dance floor as a symbolic threshold to move through to new experiences. Engaging in movement during the month of January can have special significance for us, like Janus, standing at the threshold of a new year, contemplating the possibilities that lie ahead while acknowledging past experiences. Let the new year bring a sense of connection to the cyclical nature of time, to welcoming new possibilities, and to the continuous flow of life. With love, Sylvie and the SDP Team Sweat Your Prayers in January Sylvie Minot received her BA in Dance from San Jose State University and a Master's Degree in Theology in Spirituality and Holistic Health. She is a certified 5Rhythms® Teacher trained by 5Rhythms founder Gabrielle Roth and a 5Rhythms Heartbeat teacher. Sylvie has studied psychology, indigenous healing rituals, energy medicine, and sound healing. The teachings of cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien, author Caroline Myss, and Peruvian sound healer Tito La Rosa inspire her. Since 2000, Sylvie has taught dance classes and workshops for various populations. Sylvie is often described as a catalytic shape-shifter because of her ability to meet people right where they are and move with them into new possibilities. Comments are closed.
