In 1979, I arrived in the US full of hope for freedom, a dream, a vision, and a life where it was all possible. Until that Saturday, I wasn't sure this remained true about the America I've grown to love. It was liberating to feel the collective exhale from around the world as crowds spontaneously gathered in joy to dance in the streets, celebrating hope in unison. The United States is still a country with much close-mindedness, bigotry, and prejudice, but I am once again hopeful for my dreams. I have strived to get to where I am today, and I will continue to move forward in compassion, supporting justice and fairness for all. Just as our 5Rhythms practice honored the ancestors, we can continue to pay homage to the justice warriors of both past and present. Let us honor those who fought for the rights of marginalized communities and celebrate those who continue to push for justice today. In our practice of dance and in our daily lives, we can embody this spirit of change. Let every movement be a tribute to those who came before us, a symbol of courage, and a step toward a more just world. Dance can be a powerful tool for transformation—not just for ourselves but for the communities we live in. Use this practice to shed old fears, limiting beliefs, and stagnant ways of being, and embrace a future built on unity, equity, and love. Envision a better world—a world shaped by courageous, open hearts, and let your steps reflect this vision. When you move in this way, you’re not just dancing; you’re making a statement. You’re celebrating the power of hope, the resilience of those who refuse to give up, and the possibilities of what we can create together. With love, Sylvie Minot ABOUT SYLVIE MINOT'S 5RHYTHMS5Rhythms is a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of shape, size, age, or experience. While the 5Rhythms dance itself is simple, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put your psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They come together to create a wave. There are no dance steps to follow. Each rhythm has a different energy and tempo in which you tap into the wisdom of your body, bring awareness to the patterns in yourself and your life, and find your individual expression. In Sylvie Minot’s 5Rhythms classes, you are led on a journey of self-discovery as we come together in community. The classes are often made up of two waves. The first wave is your time to arrive, let go of your day and settle into your body. During the second wave, you dance more deeply and explore a specific theme. Any level of fitness, agility and ages are invited to participate. All are welcome and no prior dance training or ability is required.
