Today is Election Day in the U.S. I invite you to take pauses throughout the day and send out a prayer for the world's collective well-being. Anxiety has been building. Citizens are on the edge of their minds--waiting for something new while hoping for the change they want to see. During turbulent times ancestor wisdom often surfaces as symbols and signs. You can recognize these signals of communication by honoring their memory through celebration or ceremony. November 2nd is also the Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos). It is a Mexican holiday spanning two days to reunite the living and dead. It is a time for celebrating, not only your ancestors but the ancestors of the plants, the animals, and the earth. These departed spirits are available for wise counsel during this time. Since 2014, I lead a class to honor the ancestors every year during Dia De Los Muertos. It's my favorite class to offer while the veil separating humans from the spirit world is at its thinnest. As my participants move to the music, I find that it is the perfect time to call on the divine spirits and pay their respects to all who have passed. During my ancestor class, I invite those in attendance to call in any ancestor they wish to honor, along with ones who will help fight for justice in this world. The ancestor chosen needn't be a relative. Any allies can be invited in from the other side. I would love for you to participate in this class. If you can't make it, remember as the Day of the Dead passes, to stop what you are doing, take a deep breath, exhale, and sink your feet into the ground. Take a moment to say thank you to those who came before to make your life possible in preparation of what's to come. Without communication with the dead, a fully human life is not possible. — W. H. Auden With love, Sylvie and the SDP Team P.S. No dance experience required. Beginners and those who think that can't dance are welcome to join us! Please contact us at [email protected] ABOUT SYLVIE MINOT'S 5RHYTHMS CLASS5Rhythms is a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of shape, size, age, or experience. While the dance itself is simple, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put your psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They come together to create a wave. There are no dance steps to follow. Each rhythm has a different energy and tempo in which you tap into the wisdom of your body, bring awareness to the patterns in yourself and your life, and find your individual expression. In Sylvie Minot’s weekly online 5Rhythms class, you will be led on a journey of self-discovery as we come together in community. The class is made up of two waves. The first wave is your time to arrive, let go of your day and settle into your body. During the second wave, we dance more deeply and explore a specific theme. Any level of fitness, agility and ages are invited to participate. All are welcome and no prior dance training or ability is required.
