In March, we commemorate Women's History Month and celebrate International Women's Day, recognizing women everywhere. Women's History Month serves as a poignant reminder of women's enduring strength, resilience, and unwavering determination worldwide. Women's History Month has its roots in celebrating International Women's Day, which dates back to the early 20th century. The first National Women's Day was observed in the United States on February 28, 1909. It was organized by the Socialist Party of America in remembrance of the 1908 garment workers' strike in New York, where women protested against poor working conditions. The idea of dedicating a specific month to honor and celebrate women's contributions to society gained traction in the 1970s. In 1978, a school district in California initiated Women's History Week around March 8, which coincided with International Women's Day. This event was successful in raising awareness about women's history and achievements. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 National Women's History Week. The following year, Congress passed a resolution establishing Women's History Week as a national observance. Over time, the week-long celebration expanded into Women's History Month, with Congress officially designating March as Women's History Month in 1987. When moving through the 5Rhythms, we celebrate the essence of the divine feminine in all its forms. Through movement, we tap into the innate strength, wisdom, and beauty that the mother goddess brings to the world. During this month of celebrating feminine energetic divinity, we invite you to join us in celebrating the strength, resilience, and beauty of the divine feminine throughout time. Through the transformative power of moving our bodies to music, we honor the energy of the feminine spirit. Welcome to March, where we celebrate the coming spring rebirth and the indomitable spirit of women everywhere. Let's reaffirm our commitment to honoring and uplifting the divine feminine in all its forms wherever we can. With love, Sylvie & the SDP Team “She is a wild, tangled forest with temples and treasures concealed within.” Comments are closed.
