Thursday, April 22, is Earth Day. It seemed like yesterday when we started our Wednesday Zoom classes with Earth Day, but it's been a year. Time appears to move in a blink of an eye, that is, unless you're waiting for something, then it's slow as molasses. Today, I found myself waiting for a verdict. I let out a held breath. I let out tears of relief when I heard “guilty, guilty, guilty!” With each breath, I take another step forward on this long journey for racial justice. May we make each breath and each step count toward change. May our humanity prevail. I want to acknowledge what has transpired and all that does support us on this incredible planet. Life inside the earth moves through all of us like a slow, deep conscious breath that can clear, ground, balance and sustain our well-being. How do we honor all that is here? How do we observe each breath, each step, each life, each bite of a nourishing meal, and each sip of water that it comes from her? Do we see our connection to all of the life on this planet, both past and present, through our daily interactions? Let's celebrate our earthly interdependence through our movement and breath while expressing gratitude for all that Mother Earth provides and embody the healing energies we want to see globally. We can't wait to honor Earth Day with you! With love, Sylvie and the SDP Team PS. No dance experience needed. Beginners are always welcome. Come join us! You don't have to attend via video--you can choose to listen to the class on your Smartphone. It's another beautiful way to experience our Wednesday classes. ABOUT SYLVIE MINOT'S 5RHYTHMS CLASSIn Sylvie Minot’s weekly online 5Rhythms class, you will be led on a journey of self-discovery as you join others in community. The class is made up of two waves. The first wave is your time to arrive, let go of your day and settle into your body. During the second wave, we dance more deeply and explore a specific theme. 5Rhythms is a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of shape, size, age, or experience. While the dance itself is simple, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put your psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They come together to create a wave. Classes feature DJ music that is facilitated by the teacher, Sylvie Minot. There are no dance steps to follow, but you are guided in breath and movement through the different musical choices. Each rhythm has its own energy and tempo in which you tap into the wisdom of your body, bring awareness to the patterns in yourself and your life, and find your individual expression. No two classes are the same. Any level of fitness, agility and ages are invited to participate. All are welcome and no prior dance training or ability is required. Please note -- for the virtual 5Rhythms class, you don't have to connect via video--you can choose to call in or join by audio only and listen to the class through a headset. Some dancers enjoy going for a walk outdoors while they move to the music.
