This month, I will be launching a chakra series in Wednesday’s movement classes, beginning with the first chakra--the roots, the foundation. In honor of African American history month, I will be incorporating music from my favorite African and African-American artists. The root chakra or Muladhara is the base of the seven energy points in your body, and one of its primary functions is to keep you grounded in the physical world. Your first chakra connects you to the earth, your tribe, and your ancestors. The mantra for this energy spot is “All is One.” Here, you learn to acknowledge your “sacred contract” with the world to which you are born. You’ll dance with your place of belonging. In moving with your chakras, you will call forth new beginnings, connect with your Kundalini energy, and become grounded with the earth. Maybe you are searching among the branches, for what only appears in the roots. - Rumi With love, Sylvie and the SDP Team PS. No dance experience needed! Beginners are always welcome. Come join us! Please contact us at [email protected] ABOUT SYLVIE MINOT'S 5RHYTHMS CLASS5Rhythms is a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of shape, size, age, or experience. While the dance itself is simple, it has the power to catalyze deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: If you put your psyche in motion, it will heal itself. The five rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. They come together to create a wave. There are no dance steps to follow. Each rhythm has a different energy and tempo in which you tap into the wisdom of your body, bring awareness to the patterns in yourself and your life, and find your individual expression. In Sylvie Minot’s weekly online 5Rhythms class, you will be led on a journey of self-discovery as we come together in community. The class is made up of two waves. The first wave is your time to arrive, let go of your day and settle into your body. During the second wave, we dance more deeply and explore a specific theme. Any level of fitness, agility and ages are invited to participate. All are welcome and no prior dance training or ability is required. Please note -- for the virtual 5Rhythms class, you don't have to connect via video--you can choose to call in or join by audio only and listen to the class through a headset. Some dancers enjoy going for a walk outdoors while they move to the music.
