The autumn equinox is when night and day are equal, and the moon embraces the sun. It is a time of balance between light and darkness. Fall equinox also welcomes the arrival of Libra, the sign of the scales. Last evening, witnessing the beauty of the rising moon connects us back to the cycle of life. Every 28 days, the full moon returns in all its splendor carrying its message of permanence and light. In a rare planetary positioning, Saturn, Mars, Venus, and Jupiter will align together (the meaning of syzygy) with this week's full 'pink' moon illuminating the night sky on Saturday, just as the shifting of the sun and moon determine the Jewish feast of Passover and the Christian celebration of Easter. I was having a conversation with a friend about joy. The question came up, "How can we feel joy when there is so much suffering?" My answer, "How can we not?" Science Direct describes conscious dance as a form of unchoreographed, intentionally nonevaluative mindful movement commonly practiced in a group setting for purposes of authentic self-expression, self-discovery, interpersonal connectedness, and personal healing. Today I want to acknowledge this High Holy day. Yom Kippur begins this evening at sundown. Yom Kippur is considered the most important holiday in the Jewish faith. I often contemplate different religious traditions and the diversity that various cultures provide us. |
